If you want to spend the day soaking some Vitamin Sea without battling with a hoard of people, this sandy shoreline is a great choice. While it is a further drive from most other Rhode Island beaches, its less-crowded shores are worth the trip.
During the off-season, make sure to bring your furry friend to this oceanfront, as dogs are allowed then. Soft, sandy shores, sparkling waters, and tons of amenities make this shoreline a great place for some family fun. Beautiful beach. Very crowded. Next time I will go much later in the day when some of the large families leave.

The waves were mild and nice for young children. The beach was busy but not crowded. The only thing that was unusual was watching the seagulls swoop down and take food out of your hand.

During low tide the entrance to the water is rocky during High tide the waves are large enough for boogie boarding and you don't have the problem with the the rocks under feet. I've been to 6 continents and over 80 countries. I love the surf at East Matunuck. I am 65 and have enjoyed body surfing there since I still enjoy it today. I love the sand which extends out in a nice soft texture for as far as you can walk out. I love the people watching and boat watching,especially from the sea wall on the Jerusalem end of the beach.
Great concessions here also. The one downside of EMSB is the amount of red tide which occurs there. This summer was particularly nasty. Oakland beach. On a low tide day you could walk out a mile into the ocean. Pick up an ice cream and seafood. Usually I come up once or twice a week. Good hidden gem. For those who are daring and experienced, the breakaway is a fun place to walk up and down.
Just be careful since the rocks can get wet and your feet might slip into a crack between the rocks. What a great way to spend some time in Rhode Island. Review of: Fogland Beach. Quiet ,slightly rocky ,bring your beach shoes ,you can park feet away from where you put your beach chair out ,can fish at the far end of the beach ,there's a quick shower area and public bathroom,reasonable non resident prices ,brought my kids when they were small ,was easy to watch them ,great place to watch sunset Animal friendly after 5pm [on leash] ,There's no concession stand bring your own feed and drinks ,there is lifeguards.
Review of: South Shore Beach. Grew up going to southshore beach at a regular basis. It was a great teenager hangout. A great way to make new friends with real sand and pretty large waves for surfing.
The beach still has free parking for residents which is a plus. On most days lifeguards are available to the public. There is a small area for campers, and fire pits can be used for the evening. My cousin has a hot dog stand at the beach, so their is food and drinks available.
Portajohns and changing rooms are on site. Just a fun place to spend the summer months, a nice walk on the beach, or read a book, listen to some music and watch the seagulls and piping plovers.
